About Saint Gregorios of Parumala

The Great Saint Mar Gregorios was born on 15th June 1848 to Kochu Mathai and Mariam of Pallathetta family in the Chathuruthy house at Mulamthuruthy. He was called by the name ‘Kochaippora’ and was given the baptismal name ‘Geevarghese’. The Great Saint Mar Gregorios had two brothers and two sisters; Kurian, Eli, Mariam and Varkey. The Great Saint Mar Gregorios was the youngest and was therefore most beloved by all .

Unfortunately, his mother passed away when he was only two years old. His eldest sister Mariam became to him all that a mother was meant. Mariam was married at that time and had a child of Kochaippora’s age.

Saint Gregorios of Parumala is popularly known as ‘Parumala Thirumeni’. Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Gregorios of the Malankara Orthodox Church who passed away on November 2nd 1902, became the first declared saint from Kerala, India naturally to be called, ‘Parumala Thirumeni’. He shines in the cloud of witnesses as a bright luminary giving rays of hope to millions in their suffering and struggles.

St. Gregorios Medical Mission Hospital was started in 1975, and was registered under the Travancore — Cochin Literacy, Scientific and Charitable Act with Reg No. A334/78.

The Institution is owned & controlled by the society of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, the head of which is His Holiness Baselious Marthoma Didimos I , The Catholicose of the Apostolic throne of St. Thomas and of the minority Malankara Orthodox Syrian Christian Community. The Society was formed to facilitate the needs of all & to render medical service to the needy irrespective of the caste/creed or religion.
The hospital was christened on 11th September 1975 with 50 beds and 3 departments. Over the last 31 years, it has grown to the status of a multi-specialty hospital - with 300 beds and most modern facilities with departments of :-
